Larry Heitkemper is Senior Vice President of the Sensor Systems Technology Division of MDA. In this role, he is responsible for the overall success of the business unit. Since joining MDA in 1975, Larry has held several other positions within the company, including Director of Strategic Development and Acquisitions and Director for Weather Service.
Larry has managed over 25 programs for U.S. Government clients, leading teams in the development of application algorithms employing satellite assets for which he then often constructed cost/benefit analyses in support of operationalizing the applications.
Highlights of his accomplishments include:
- Architecting the first worldwide crop monitoring system developed in response to the Russian Grain Robbery, for which the company president received the NASA Pecora Award.
- Architecting and starting the successful commercial weather services division of MDA.
Prior to joining MDA, Mr. Heitkemper worked as a software developer, statistician and business analyst for the Illinois State Water Survey, EQR, and St. Louis University.
Mr. Heitkemper holds a B.S. in Engineering, and an MBA and a M.S. in Economics. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society, a past board member of the Weather Risk Management Association, and member of national honor societies in agriculture and mathematics.
